Water and its role in designing the built environment: Pallavi Dhomse Pawar

I chose to give this as a challenge to design a place to commemorate. Choice of selecting the site context was up to a designer to think off, being a landscape architect, I am inclined towards integrating art, science for planning and Design of psychologically healthy and meaningful landscapes. My focus to set up environmental art in the context of sea cliff region, where in you ideate the experience of Commemoration.

Site is designed keeping in mind the whole process of commemoration. Covid pandemic world wide has led to loss of Human life having said that there was huge economic and social disruption ,Maharashtra state has higher number of covid cases and death rates were highest in Maharashtra, I chose to design and site my memorial; in the outskirts of Mumbai sea facing village away from city limits.

HERE WATER AS AN ELEMENT OF design is looked at many ways ,sea facing  site of wide expanse of water horizon and sun reflecting on it keeps us going and hoping for a new day and life.

A DENSE SHADED WALKWAYS ALONG THE OCEAN PROVIES US SHELTER, IT’S A PAUSE LOOKBACK INTO THE PAST AS YOU WALK ALONG, Use helps us sustain focus on the lost once, as one walk along the cliff life teaches us how to be focused in our approach during the critical situations, and then you are exposed to the waves splashing hard on the rock cliff reminds us our struggle in life, A walkthrough the Corten steel tunnel takes us through the journey of our life during covid times, facing whirlpool pools, churning up of water swirls, formation of  white foams, rushing down and the sea calms down again along the cliff reminds us once again the whole journey post birth till we are in our last stages.

Medium to Express the Design Thought is in Graphite Pencil 6b,8B   Soft pencil. I Find working with this medium is quick to express our Preliminary drawings initial design ideas and the strokes really help us creating a different gradation with line weights, the stroke reacts dynamically, since the Strokes varies from grey to Black depending on Abrasion, blurring or shading is easy in Pencil strokes, also helps in creating contoured stroke, one can easily create transition and gradation.
