Understanding various climatic strategies for a building is of foremost importance when it comes sustainable design. The design strategy for the studio vertical guided by Surendran Aalone intended to shift lens from site planning to detailing a portion of the building in 1:20 scale that is represented through the method of sectional perspective in the following illustration. The drawing illustrates various climatic devices employed in the proposal like creating a double roof, thermal buffer, passive radiant cooling, diffused day lighting, natural draft through the building, etc that adds to the thermal comfort of the user. The sectional perspective also helps in understanding the visual impact of these strategies in the space, volumes and scales thereby making it a better tool than a conventional section or a wall section to perceive a wholesome understanding of the building language.
These strategies were primarily modelled on sketchup and the section derived through that was digitally hand traced to illustrate the perspective. Digitally tracing also gives the freedom of omitting details that need not be presented to the viewer.
