Experiential Contrast: Amulya B

“Experiential Contrast” involves immersing oneself in two contrasting architectural environments to enhance understanding of spatial dynamics and human perception. By juxtaposing the journey of ascending a staircase in an attic with descending into a well, an exploration of the influence of gravity and spatial orientation on sensory and emotional responses was established. It facilitated a profound understanding of the place and the unique experiences each structure offers. The intensified pull towards the ground felt in the attic provided insights into how architectural design shapes our interaction with space. In contrast, the well, seamlessly blending with nature, underscored the integration of natural elements in architecture.

The medium employed here is pen and watercolors to capture the textures, light, and atmosphere of each setting. This medium vividly conveys the ambiance and character of the spaces, significantly enhancing the studio work that semester. The exercise underscored the importance of experiential learning in architecture, demonstrating how deeply personal engagement with spaces can inform and inspire innovative design solutions.
