Material Conversations : Katyayani K

These sketches were developed during the conceptual design phase of the architectural thesis “Material Conversations,” exploring architecture as a medium for connection between people, craft, and culture within the evolving urban context of Hyderabad.

Rather than treating craft as a static exhibition, the thesis positions it as a living, everyday activity that shapes and informs the spaces around it. Its mass, porosity, texture, and earthy character contribute to a spatial language that is rooted in the region while remaining open to reinterpretation.

The sketches explore the sectional qualities of spaces, studying relationships between material, light, movement, and human activity. Charcoal was chosen as a medium to represent stone as a primary building material, capturing its weight, texture, and raw character.
