
Waste World imagines a settlement in perpetual assembly. Set in Mumbai’s docklands, the project explores what happens when a city grows exclusively from its own salvage. Existing dock infrastructure forms the foundation, while recovered port steel serves as the primary structural framework. Repurposed shipping containers are transformed into homes and communal spaces. Free from a rigid master plan, construction is dictated entirely by resource availability and immediate local needs.
Rather than isolating a single structure, this sectional axonometric cuts through a continuous fragment of the urban fabric. It reveals homes, circulation networks, and terraces as parts of a single, tangled system. Every layer carries the weight of earlier interventions, with older spaces existing directly alongside new additions. Nothing is ever truly finished, yet the settlement functions seamlessly, expanding continuously without erasing its past.
